To Kill a Spider

A feast upon ephemeral flesh,
Sweet horrid beast, cannibalistic pleasure,
Talons ripping, wounded purity,
Gasping needles, erotic obscurity:

Violating songs of forgotten rapture;
From dying beauty in an empty carcass;
I kill the spider to save the butterfly.
I kill the spider to watch it die.

Leaflets of cuticle immersed in aspiration,
Where energy branches to toxic blood,
Where has the spider indulged in this ecstasy?
Is it where the butterfly now lay free from this misery?

Deep in the midst of a silk elegance,
An assassin awaits its naïve casualty;
But I kill the spider to save the butterfly.
I kill the spider as it withers and dies.
**But I kill the spider to save the butterfly.
I kill the spider as it withers and dies.**
